Just had to post this up because it's so true... What makes you a Christian? Definitely not by what you wear... or have... or even do (like singing in the choir, being in a committee)...

A Christian is a Christian because
1) He/she knows the truth: the Bible & the message of the cross and resurrection
2) He/she has responded rightly to this truth, which means trying to live out his/her life according to the principles written in the Bible, one of which is love.

Found this site while doing some research for labour econs project:

Check it out! Can't post it here because of citation reasons... no time to go ask them for permission, so i'll just put their website addy here, and you can go look!

Have a laugh! Suddenly, "the durian" doesn't seem as repulsive anymore. *wink*

Menotti

This Italian sounding name belies the interior of the eatery. It's a high class eatery which looks like a high class tavern playing music that you'll hear on Lush 99.5FM. It's a very Lush 99.5FM kind of place. Music there always seems to be the same, even though there is some variation in the beat and rhythmn.

Still, the food was pretty good. I think it's because it's Italian, and real good Italian food is good not because of exotic ingredients, but because of fresh ingredients. I had the sole fillet with mushroom sauce and mashed potatoes. The fish was unbelievably soft and fresh, tender to the bite even though it was baked. Each bite assured a burst of flavour and juices in my mouth that was oh-so-delightful!

To go with the food, I ordered a red berry yoghurt frappe. The thick creaminess of the milk, sweetness of the berries, and subtle crunchiness of the blended fruit was heavenly. It was a fantastic rounding up to the meal. Another frappe to shout about is the hazelnut frappe. It tastes so incredibly nutty, it's like drinking a kinder bueno. Some frappes to avoid like the plague are: apple, passionfruit and vanilla (unless you like really strong tasting vanilla).

To top it off, Menotti is having a promotion for UOB credit and debit card holders, and SMU students and staff. It's a one-for-one promotion. The difference is that the one-for-one is for things in the same category, and not necessarily the exact same item.

That said, the 8 of us had a bill of about $280, but paid only $140 in all. My $19 sole fillet and $6 drink became a total of $14.50 (service charge included). Good promotion? You bet!

However, I'd recommend going only when there's a promotion. Otherwise, the food is a bit too expensive for words. Especially for poor students like us.

Menotti is located at #01-12, Raffles City Shopping Centre. You can enter in by the road, or through Esprit. Promotion ends October

Crab Beehoon

Imagine waiting 1.5hr for crab beehoon. Most would baulk at the idea, but many do take on this wait for Mellben Seafood or Uncle Leong's. These two outlets are really the same stall, located in opposite blocks. Most do not know that they are branches though. That's quite sad, because then they'll have to wait for a very long time. Mellben's people asked us to go over to Uncle Leong's as it's their branch.

Their recommended dishes are the crab beehoon soup, jin sha xie (literally, golden sand crab), and luo han zhai (vegetarian luo han fish). The luo han zhai was good... crispy beancurd represents the luo han, but the beancurd skins didn't taste like beancurd. It really had a fish taste!

Crab was the best though, especially in the crab beehoon soup. That was a female crab, and the soup was very tasty and milky. Crab meat was succulent and the amount of roe was just amazing! Jin sha xie was a bit too peppery for my taste, and the meat was a bit drier.

But on the whole, it was a fantastic meal! A must try!

MellBen Seafood is at Blk 232 Ang Mo Kio Ave 3. Just look out for the unmistakable yellow signboard with a crab on it.

Brittany, France

Tucked away in a little corner of a grand white building along Thomson road is a quaint eatery boasting of Brittany specialties (Brittany is a province in France). Le P’tit Breton is run by a husband and wife team, where the husband (a Frenchman) cooks, and the wife (a Singaporean) takes orders and interacts with customers.

When I stepped in, it was as though I was transported away from the busyness of the road just outside into a quiet and relaxing cozy corner. Tables are made of wood, and some have tiles set onto the top. A very European-styled design. The usual glaring white overhead lights were switched off – in their place were lamps I like to call “European lamps”. These lamps gave off such a nice warm orange glow to enhance the area. The design, black metal framing the glass, only further served to emphasize the rustic feel about the place.

Ambience, check.

But what is ambience without food? The menu has completes and crepes, both sweet and savoury. First-timers can go for the set which chooses the meal for you and pairs it nicely. Weicheng had the set, which consisted of a complete with eggs and bacon, a crepe with raspberry jam, and apple cider. I opted for a complete with eggs, bacon, onions and mushroom, and apple cider. Pictures below show my food.

Lest you think that this isn’t filling, think again. Each complete measures 27cm by 27cm. That’s 729 square cm! 27cm is about the distance from my wrist to the end of my elbow. Humongous! Desert was equally delightful, with the sweetness of the raspberry jam complementing the savoury completes we just had.

Seriously, the helpings are so big that you should just share. Get one set, add on a cup of apple cider, and tuck in! This should feed two comfortably, especially a guy and a girl. Two girls are unlikely to finish it. Too much!

About the apple cider. The one we ordered had only 1% alcohol in it, but it was delightful. The alcohol wasn’t overpowering. They also have another apple cider with 4% alcohol. The proper names escape me, so please excuse me.

All this, with information about Brittany, makes for a wonderful lazy afternoon. I loved it!

This sounds like a sweet fairy-tale...

One day, a guy and girl met and they fell in love with each other. They did pretty well in school and were invited to a recruitment event by a big foreign bank. And because they wanted to see more of each other, they wanted to work together. The girl was weaker than the guy mathematically, but because of their desire to work together, he helped her.

Sounds nice right?

I'm indignant. Now before you think I'm a killjoy, let me clarify.

He helped her by letting her copy his answers to an aptitude test, after the invigilator had said "stop writing".

Two things there...
1. Blatant cheating (copy answers)
2. Blatant cheating (don't keep to time limit)

I'm just disgusted by this. It casts such a pallor on the reputation of our batch of students.

A few of us saw it, but didn't say anything. Perhaps we're just non-confrontational. Perhaps we just don't want any trouble. Perhaps being a whistle-blower really isn't that wonderful after all.
