Body Life
Just ended FOC today. Ok, FOC means freshman orientation camp. It was a blast! The fellowship... talks... workshops... was wonderful. Well, i guess i treasured them all the more because of my lessons. Had to go out half the time so... well, yeah.

Was really challenged by all the things said during the talks and workshops. But for now, the one thing that i really remember is that we all have ONE calling. And that one calling is to be Christ-like. You know, people always say they have a calling to be missionaries or doctors or lawyers or occupations like that. What about roadsweepers? Why doesn't anyone have a calling to be a roadsweeper?

But well, we have one purpose in life... a purpose that existed before creation and that exists now and that will exist in the new heavens and earth. Our sole purpose: to be Christ-like!

Heh. Another thing I wanna share is Ci'En's encouragement post. She wrote 10 reasons for everyone! Super!
Mine went like this...

Top 10 Reasons why Michele is such a special gal:
ten: For starters, her name is Michele
nine: one of the cutest and tiny people around
eight: when she smiles, her grin is toothy and eyes closed
seven: ready smile and infectious laughter
six: has tons of stories to tell: anecdotes-galore
five: greatly talented for music
four: very mature in Christ
three: genuinely concerned for friends
two: unassuming, gentle nature
one: she's a greal pal!

Thanks Ci'En! Hahaha... well, i really dun deserve all that... there's lotsa things that're not so nice about me... and well, that i'd be ashamed to say. But, i'm glad to have been an encouragement to someone!

And... i miss the fellowship of FOC! Weh!!! Miss waking up to a whole whooping lot of 60 familiar and unfamiliar faces... sleeping on the floor on mattresses that are erm... "clean"... playing games.... having discussions... and basically, sharing our lives!

Oh, but i love my bed.. and my shower... hahaha!

Learning about the Holy Spirit
Went for PTBC this weekend and just returned. Really learnt so much about the third person of the Trinity. So much that I can't remember everything that I learnt! It was quite confusing and all... think I've gotta really go and study and read the book I bought. All I can remember is that Tony Payne suggested this: that Jesus and the Holy Spirit are the two hands of God. And all three work together.

Another thing I learnt is that love has to govern the exercise of our spiritual gifts. How we use them and when we use them must be governed by love. We have to think of others first! That's a real challenge... sometimes it's so easy to think ourselves superior to others just because we have a certain gift... But well, that's one challenge we all have to overcome to become more Christ-like.

Well, I thoroughly enjoyed this conference. Got to know more pple from other churches too. Shared our lives... shared our meals... hahaha!

And well, even when everyone else arranged to room with each other and I didn't... guess who was my room-mate? Serene! Wow, we were all surprised. E-V-E-R-Y  S-I-N-G-L-E   O-N-E  O-F  U-S. Heh... we had a good time of talking and sharing the room too. And you know, I'm kinda glad we were roomies, coz I was sick... and wasn't in the best of emotional states... so with someone who knows my habits and whose habits i know... it's easier i guess. =)

Now, to look forward to FOC!

Surprise! Got a nice snug white top from Topshop. Really surprised even myself, coz I never thought I'd ever be able to carry off Topshop's stuff. Anyway, it's quite a simple top: sleeveless, with a white ring in one of the sides. Another good thing is the material... not as thin as the boatnecked one from U2. That's really thin!

So, now i've got my first piece of Topshop stuff. And it costs only $19! Quite happy with the buy... Affordable... nice... elegant yet casual... And that's right, Topshop ain't exactly my style. Then again, clothes found in Giordano can also be found in Mango and Topshop and blah blah and blah blah...

Well, while the GSS lasts... I'm gonna get my boatnecked top from U2. Either a yellow colour or a black one. Those are opaque enough. And I'm quite surprised too that boatnecked tops are flattering...

All this will also be a good reward for working so hard as a research assistant. Oh that reminds me... I've gotta go arrange for a meal with the two brothers who helped me loads during the project. Advice, explaining terms, even finding figures! Really helpful guys... anyone wants to be introduced? To these two single brothers? =)

Cats play with their food. Period. Was walking from Food Haven, and i saw this cat playing with a mouse. The mouse was so cute!!! Small little grey furry thing... it's skinner and smaller than my hamsters! My heart went out to it... Ok, so my nick's mouse... but well, the mouse was so small and the big fat tabby cat was well, big.

Anyway, today's observation showed that yes, cats do play with their food!!!

And no, that wasn't a rat! Ok, maybe a small rat... that can fit in my palm... but it was cute!!!

Hamster Therapy
Looking at hamsters can be so therapeutic... Reached home exhausted from driving in the rain and lunch. Went to have a look at my 4 hamsters. Seeing them running around, nibbling on their food, cleaning themselves (i can imitate that!), curling up in a ball... Very therapeutic. Felt quite refreshed. Even had energy to go practise piano!

Later, lil sis and me put the hamsters one at a time into a pink little plastic ball and let them run around the hall. Boy, can they run! All of them tried to run into some corner, but can't allow that coz if they get loose.. that's it!

When we put them together, they fought. One of the hamsters looks like a big bully coz he has this mean look when he scrunches up his eyes to look at you. And he is a big bully. He goes looking for his brothers to fight with them. He particularly likes to fight with this one who loves to sleep in the 'house'. They squeak and squeak until we break up the fight. Big bully also goes to find the smallest hamster to bite it. And small hamster will let big bully bite it. Man... this hamster has to learn how to defend itself!

These 4 little hamsters really remind me of kids. They fight over territory, toys, food, and for the fun of it. And when you drop a large piece of tissue in, they'll all zoom for it and tear it up, much like how kids just love to burst bubble packs!

Hmmm... hamster therapy... good. Since there's no water therapy for me, hamster therapy'll do just fine. Takes my mine off stuff that I shouldn't be bothered about...

Everytime they come, i never fail to be amazed and encouraged. Amazed by how they've changed; encouraged by how they've changed.

These people are former drug addicts. Some were hooked on the stuff for 15-20 years. That's quite a bit of their lives! They went in and out of prison... suffered ridicule... were outcast... but still they went back to drugs. But something happened in their lives...

They heard of Jesus. They drew near... and accepted Jesus as their personal Lord and Saviour. It's really amazing... how God worked in these people's lives to turn them around from hard-core drug addicts to decent people. 180 degrees change!

It's amazing... and the way these guys sing about Jesus's love? Wonderful... They sound so professional! Bought their CDs. Anyone wanna listen, just ask me! The songs are in Chinese... but are very meaningful. Perhaps i'll translate them one day...

"May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world."
- Galatians 6:14 (NIV)

Just finished reading Galatians today. It's been a real struggle for me... trying to sit down and study the epistle. I know it's just 30 mins a day... but I was loathe to do so. It's really not by my own strength that I've finished this! Really, it's God's strength... and the Holy Spirit's prompting and 'nagging'.

Certain 'Christians' were bugging the other Jewish Christians to be circumcized. Now circumcision in itself is not wrong, but it's the attitude that it makes one more holy which makes it wrong. This attitude totally undermines the work of the cross. It's as though the people were saying: "Yeah, so Jesus died on the cross and we're Christians, we're saved... BUT, now, to receive Jesus and be circumcized. Ah.. that's much better. You're more holy and righteous!" Paul's reply would be "bah humbug! The cross is sufficient!"

Then these 'Christians' wanted to draw people to their side so that they could boast in them... that they could make use of these people to avoid persecution. Well that's super underhanded... to make use of people...

These are just some thoughts... Not too sure if I've gotten the full story, coz I'm not that privvy to Jewish culture. Not too sure what things meant to them last time either.

But well, it was a good reminder that the cross is sufficient. Jesus' work on the cross is sufficient. Nothing else I can do can draw me closer to Him... nor can it draw me further.

This is one thing that I've seen lots of: legalism. An insistence on doing certain things in certain ways, right down to the details. An attitude that undermines the cross...

And I pray that we will all not fall prey to it... to the attitude of thinking ourselves better than others just because we do certain things.
