Pressure Cooker
You know food gets cooked in a pressure cooker? Well, I think I'm gonna get cooked and might explode soon...
The A levels were 2 yeras ago. TWO YEARS ago. And my mum ALWAYS harps on my results. They're good enough to get into uni, just that I and everyone else expected better. She ALWAYS says that I spend too much time in church, and hold ALL OTHERS up as role models of studying. I'm like... what the?! Can you shut up?! Those 'role models' that she chooses for once do worse than me academically, and I say this factually and not pridefully.
I've been telling her to get off my back (in a nicer way) about this, and that it's OVER. Can she stop harping about it? No thanks to this topic, we usually get into quarrels. She always says I don't study hard enough. That's coz' she doesn't see me studying and thinks that school's all about play. I feel like cursing... doesn't mean that she doesn't see me study means I don't study. As are not easy to get in uni. Bs are more the norm.
Btw, my not-so-fantastic grades for the A levels spell ABBB. Enough for me to live by, I say. I don't have to be a scholar. I don't have to be in the Dean's List. I don't have to get an honours. I don't... coz that's not what decides who I am as a person.
I am a Child of God. Part of God's family. I've got a direct access line to the King. My results don't determine where I'll go or what I'll do in the far future. My identity does.
Just wish my mum will understand. AND... stop bugging me about my results.

Latest Updates
Just some snapshots of my life & thoughts since Thurs.
1. Fri 24/10/2003
Went shopping with mum and sis from 10am to 6pm. Record-breakingshopping spree! Mum thought the shops in Orchard open at 10am so erm, we were there since then. Heh. Well, the day was saved (kinda) by having breakfast at Ya Kun. Their toast bread is really thin, crispy and tasty! but I found their kaya a tad too sweet. Butter was delicious though.
2. Sat 25/10/2003
Ate grandma's steamed egg and fishcakes again. Fantabulous! I really don't know how she does the egg, so nice, creamy, and tasty! All of the steamed egg I've had so far pale in comparison. Fishcake's from this particular stall in Chinatown market. That particular paste is what gives us wonderfully salty, crisp on the outside and soft and bouncy on the inside fishcake texture. I think my grandma's really wonderful: for years she's been going down to Chinatown to do her shopping coz she knows that we like her fishcakes. Such dedication!
3. Sun 26/10/2003
Went bowling after church, so asked mum to bring me shorts, t-shirt and shoes. Well, my maid put my mum's berms into my wardrobe and my mum happened to take that pair of berms so... i was left bowling in a super baggy and loose pair of 'hipster' berms. This is the first time i'm really grateful for the fashion trend and invention called hipsters. Well, it was really a "comedy of errors" as a friend put it!
4. Mon 27/10/2003
Woke up at 12 noon today, too tired to do much. Just did maths assignment which is crazy. Siao liao... And another round of assignment madness is going to start tomorrow. Oh yes, finally finished the personal journal and PTOS for FT... now i've got to polish up my resume and cover letter for next week. Catch is, i've got to find a job I'm interested in. Waaaaay to go... i'm deadmeat.

Reckless Driver Gives Passengers Headache
4 SMU students flagged down a cab along Bukit Timah Road today after they finished Christian Fellowship. They piled in and took off for 4 destinations.
The taxi was cruising and conversation was light-hearted until the taxi suddenly jam-braked and the driver sounded the horn loudly. The taxi driver muttered some swear words under his breath and swerved onto the middle lane.
After the first passenger alighted, the taxi driver took a reckless drive to the second destination. By that time, the 4th passenger said that he had a headache. The 3rd passenger alighted. Conversation ceased.
The blue Comfort taxi took off again, this time for the 3rd destination. Conversation between the 3rd and 4th passenger ceased because both had a headache, the 3rd passenger from the reckless driving and the 4th passenger due to something he ate. The 3rd passenger couldn't stand it, and smsed the 4th passenger about the taxi driver's reckless driving. He agreed with her.
Finally, they reached the 3rd passenger's destination, and it was not a main road so the taxi driver slowed down. Thank God for that... the 4th passenger's head was splitting, he wished he could just sleep, but had to see his way home first.
And that's the end of the story because I was the 3rd passenger. Reckless driver causes and aggravates headaches... How true...

Kids say the darnest things
Went out to celebrate Ruth's 21st on Sat. Ratchanee was down with fever, so Bro Mat brought Onesimus along. That little tyke was his usual 'dao' self, so quiet and unwilling to talk until we got him started..
Well, first up we had him to sing his favourite song, which he said was "Fishers of Men". It was so cute a rendition of it: his pure, clear and innocent voice ringing through the air in the car. Then he gave his rendition of David slaying Goliath (or Golia, as he called him). His favourite line was: "Davi took the ling and throw the stone at Golia and the stone hit Golia and Golia fall down and Davi took his stone and cut off Golia head!" He rattled on and on... and basically the line should be understood as: "David took the sling and threw the stone at Goliath, and the stone hit Goliath and Goliath fell down, and David took his sword and cut off Goliath's head". And this rendition was complete with sound effects too! Bam, bing, chang... all came into place.
Then... he sang "I'm in the Lord's Army". The song goes like this: I may never march in the infantry, ride in the calvary, shoot in the artillery. I may never fly over the enemy but I'm in the Lord's army. Yes Sir!
He sang: I may never mark in the chick-en-tree, rie in the ca-wa-ry, shoot in the e-yee-yee-yee. I may never fly over the enemy but I'm in the Lord's army. Yes Sir! Ah, the innocence of kids...
And one that can be added to the chicken crossing the road list of jokes is...
Us: "Why did the chicken cross the road?"
Oni: "The chicken didn't cross the road! Still red light, cannot cross. Then so many cars zoom zoom. So chicken cannot cross"
Wah is that a genius answer or what?! His inspiration was probably the traffic jam we were caught in. So many cars, plus red light also. :-)
Well the next time you see a kid, listen (not just hear) his or her words, can be really one of those darnest things!

How Much is God in Control?
No matter where we are, in the home, in the office... anywhere. Even if we're hermits, we would still see all the suffering and pain that goes on around us. There's so much new sufferings and pain everyday it's hard to reconcile this with the knowledge and understanding of a good and all-powerful God. Many say this: "If God were really good, loving and all-powerful, then XXX (insert a suffering of your choice) wouldn't happen." Well, that actually stems from the premise that considers only the good, loving and all-powerful nature of God, which is quite incomplete. God is more than that. We gotta consider more than that...
Well anyway, I'm no authority on this topic. Just found an article on it entitled "How Much Does God Control" by Herb Vander Lugt. It's really a booklet, a free booklet. Me thinks it makes for quite an interesting read, especially since Lugt and his wife Ginny have raised a daughter who was brain injured at birth. Though this question of how much God controls seems very philosophical and analytical-skills-course-like, it's a question that is so real to us all, as real as the pain and failure that we feel when things go wrong.
Go ahead, take a peek into the article. It wouldn't hurt to read it... right?

"Why Are Guitars (good ones anyway) so darn expensive?!?!!"
My guitar broke a while back, think it was sometime in June. The rectangular part near the bottom just broke off. Don't know what it's called. I just play, not know my guitar. Well, it's my first guitar and a Christmas present from my parents to boot... am missing it already... and don't get to play guitar much, if at all coz' it's usually the guys playing the guitar. I'll just accompany on the piano or sing along.
Well, got some cash from Mum for birthday. That's gonna go into the Mouse-Guitar Fund (MGF). I know can get a guitar for $100 but I don't really like the sound. Not warm enough.. i want one with a better tone. Looks like all my ang pow money come CNY's gonna be frittered away... it'll go almost straight into the Mouse-Guitar Fund. And MGF has to compete with phone bill payments and buying cds too. But well, I haven't bought a cd in a real long time. Erm.. no wait, that was until Mon. Yeah... didn't buy cds for more than 3 months, and finally found a vocal union cd on Mon, just had to buy it. It sounds great! And it's acapella. Beautiful...
Well, saved some money on sandals. Ser and Sha got me a pair of sandals. Didn't expect them to get that.. they knew I liked it coz I told them when i was out with them one Thurs, the Thurs that I was supposed to be studying for a Game Theory test. Sorry Prof Koh, but i had to get out for some window shopping therapy! Too stressed!!!
Then got a pair of shorts too... from Jerm, Kev, Song, Cin, Dav and Ruth. It fits but i don't feel secure... i can't afford to lose any more weight or it'll slip off! Then... oh no! Dunno where to put my face already. Zhiwei got me a cd but i already have that. Had that cd since erm... last year? Yeah... have decided what to do with it. :-) Also got another cd and book from WJ. He passed them to me yesterday, and was hoping against all odds that i wouldn't have tt cd. And.... i don't! He heard abt the Zhiwei incident heh... And the cd sounds great! Acapella too. Yup, i'm a great fan of acapella. It's amazing how beautiful and flexible the harmony of human voices can be!
Ok... have really digressed. Lemme see how i've degressed this time...
Guitars >>> Mouse-Guitar Fund >>> ang pow money >>> my expenses >>> birthday gifts >>> liking acapella
Haha... this is good (or not) i don't know. But well, at least i'm thinking.. in my usual jump to anything way!
And the library is freaking cold... just a side thought... but have my jacket today. Learnt my lesson after forgetting to bring jacket yesterday. Had to borrow one... it was mighty big and green and so combat-like. My friend (who shall remain nameless) forgot to bring the jacket for me and he was already driving to sch so erm... he called his friend to borrow his jacket for me. Heh... thanx bro! Jacket was so thick it was as if i went to Antartica though... heh. And sorry if ur another friend in my class misunderstood anything! Just tell them i'm ur sis muahahaha... afterall, ur mum practically treats me as her daughter coz no daughter. :-)
Ok, off to Kelly's birthday... which reminds me... i forgot to write her a note! Oh no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last time i went to the one at united square my uncle paid so... haha. Well, it was quite enjoyable! Pity not all of us were at the same table... so wasn't really able to catch up with all of them... but well, there's the camp to do lotsa catching up! Yups... And i'm down with a flu. Yucks... Nose's been going like a tap every time i step into an air-con room. Uck....

Ok, for something more pleasant. Went for a concert in sch today, part of SMU's art fest. Liked the opening medley: Sukiyaki; how deep is your love; every breath you take, and also the instrumental rendition of moon river. The fun was infectious... wow... i like it when the performers are having fun playing their music! But some groups had prob hitting the notes and/or co-ordinating... that's quite sad. But overall, it was wonderful! I wanna take that module too if i have a chance... Jonnie and Roy pakar with me to take already. Serene not confirm... neither is Weijian... nor Serah... hmmm... i wanna take the course with ppl i'm comfortable enough to make music with lehz... if not co-ordination could be a grea big problem. And... back to the concert. In any concert... performers must SMILE!!! and HAVE FUN!!! Then the audience will enjoy it. :-)
Looking forward to more infectious and fun and smiley concerts. Way to go guys!

Couldn't sleep last night. Think i was worrying/excited about playing for 1st service today.. kept on waking up throughout the night! But strangely didn't seem that tired until i came home... heh.
But when it came for message, i went out of the sanctuary... well, didn't want to sit through 2 identical messages, so decided to sit through the 2nd service one. Went for Sunday school... then got a bit paranoid coz we (organist and me) didn't know when we had to go back into the sanctuary. Holy Communion today.
Then at 10.25am, we went down. Pastor was still speaking on the 4 great reformers then he went on to Sola Gratia, Sola Scriptura, Sola Fide, and Soli Deo Gloria. Ok, he still wasn't done. Organist and i sat on the big blue couch outside... and both fell asleep after a while... zzzzzzzz
Our Sunday Sch teacher came down, was waiting to go in to, coz he's a deacon and was helping to serve Holy Communion. He woke us up when they were praying: sign that message had ended. Wow, we woke up with a start! Me more so than the organist coz organist didn't practise Amazing Grace, and tt was the song to be sung in preparation for Holy Communion!
But really thank God that all went well.. though there were the mistakes, but still, everyone took it in their stride and worship went on. After all... if the mistakes are noticed... then... where's your focus? On man or on God? :p

Had first wishes today...2 days in advanced. So funny... apparently this friend of mine whom i've known since i was six forgot tt its October, he thought it was December. Gave a black stare when i went up front first Thurs of Oct... haha. So he was like: must be the first to wish me, coz paiseh, know me for so long and can still get so mixed up. Muahahaha... So have just got the tip of the iceberg... waiting to see how creative this self-proclaimed uncreative person can be!
But for now, time for a date with Cobb-Douglas... am so looking forward to finishing this date fast. I want my beauty sleep... haha
For those who dunno... Cobb-Douglas is a production function. In simple English, i've gotta rush out a report so can play tomorrow. Good night!

Finally... finally it feels like the hols! But think it's just for a fleeting moment... just today only.
Had so much fun fellowshipping during the games we played for CF games day! Played soapy dog and bone (fun whacking ppl!), then played captain's ball and frisbee.
Soapy dog and bone was yes, played with two wet bars of dettol soap. Got really dirty, coz of the grass. But best part was that it became a soapy dog and bone-rugby game! The soap was just being thrown to the base line!
Then captain's ball... didn't run ard much coz no stamina, so helped with some throwing the ball... apparently only Weijian and Dons saw me around, so only they threw to me. Guess i'm still quite diminutive! Also was the goal-catcher. With Damon as defender, no prob.. quite safe, just had to jump off the chair and across the chair... acrobatics. Still quite ok. With David as defender... woo hoo... he anyhow whack to get the ball away!!! First whack went *bam* straight across the upper part of my chest... later was my head almost kena. haha... he's one rough defender!
Then frisbee. Farnie!!!!!!!! Jos and I are both butter-fingered ppl, so we usually dropped the frisbee when it came flying by. Then once i was behind the line (can score), Li Ping threw the frisbee to me... but i wasn't prepared and it slipped through my fingers! Argh!!! But we still won.... hahaha!!!
Group 2, champion team!!! Will display pics if i've got the chance.... and once i get a host for pics :-)

I'm supposed to be spring? I don't feel very much like spring now... Feel more like autumn or winter now... yeah feel like i'm just withering away... and feeling so emotionally drained.

You're Most Like The Season Spring ...
Fresh faced, with a young outlook on life - you
smile at the world and expect it to smile back
at you. You're mostly a bubbly, fun - innocent
person. Described as cute possibly. However,
you're a little naive about things and tend to
be a little too trustworthy.
As the first season, It Makes you the youngest -
and so most immature - but people are inclined
to look out for and protect you.
Well done... You're the most fun of the seasons :)
?? Which Season Are You ??
brought to you by Quizilla

Mega Sigh... Got pick-pocketed today. Ok, pick-bagged to be exact. My phone's gone. Sim card, phone, pouch, all gone. Was so sad just now... and so scared too... Well, sim card's replaceable... so is the phone... looking for a new one. But the pouch isn't... quite tough to find that particular booth... it goes anywhere around the island! Last time i lost it, i found the cart at Bugis Junction... and a friend bought it for me coz he was faster at taking out his wallet than i was... plus the shoplady kinda turned to him for the money and not me. Sigh... why do i keep on losing my pouches? First one is Daddy bought... lost it. Second one is good friend bought... lost it coz lost the phone. Will there be a third time losing the pouch? I dunno... but I hope there won't be a second time losing the phone... Gotta go down to Cuppage to get the new sim card and new phone...
The sociologist in me says that some people gain happiness and satisfaction at the expense of others. How true... to whoever it is who took my phone, I hope the phone spoils fast and you learn your lesson. And I would like to wish you a hundred warts on your butt... but shan't be so mean. Just wish that the phone'll spoil and that u can't use it nor sell it for profit.

Beautiful song... heard it on "The Vocal Union" album entitled "We've Got To Sing"... really reminded me that no matter whether we can sing, we're called to lift our voices and sing praises to God! So just as an encouragement to those of you who can't sing... or can't sing as well as you'd like, take heart! Coz it's the joy in our hearts that allows us to sing!
p.s. I always find congregational singing very powerful and melodious and all... even though many of them can't hold a tune for nuts if they're alone... one great piece of evidence for Joy that provides the music!
Sing With Our Hearts
Words and music: Randy Hatchett © 1982 Anthony K. Music (ASCAP)
This song also appeared as "We've Got to Sing" on Heaven's Gonna Shine by His Image.
Lead: Roy Hawkins and Gary Moyers
Lyrics:
Chorus 1:
We've got to sing with our hearts, make a melody
Teachin' others with the songs that we sing
We've got to sing with our hearts, make a melody
Praise the Lord and teach His Word
Now we all want our songs to sound good
We want each voice to sing the note that it should
But we must also sing it with our heart
It doesn't matter if you can sing the right part
Chorus 2:
We've got to sing with our hearts (sing it with our hearts), make a melody (make a melody)
Teachin' others with the songs that we sing
We've got to sing with our hearts (make a melody), make a melody
Praise the Lord and teach His Word
Well you might say that your voice is bad
That you ain't got the voice that you once had
But God has told his children to sing
So lift your voice to heaven and let it ring
We've got to sing, sing it with our hearts!
"My servants will sing out of the joy of their hearts..." Isaiah 65:14a

Ok, i was bored in Tues' class... not today's class... sigh. Didn't unclick the draft button, so it stayed as a draft. So now... you get to enjoy the work that was started on Tues afternoon!
And for today's presentation, Serene said she's gonna be in a shirt and jeans from her morning class' presentation. So i decided to go along with her dress code. Looks better aesthetically... like both presenters are co-ordinating and all. And to cut a long story short, the only shirt that'd fit nicely tucked out is a baby blue colour shirt. All my shirts are loose ones.. think it's time to get fitting ones... office wear shopping! Ok, back to the story. Well, with my dark jean bottoms and the 3/4 sleeve baby blue shirt... I look like I just stepped out from behind one of the Nokia care centre counters! Colour looks exactly the same... Well, good enough for presentation attire i'd say... haha since it's 'office' wear!!!
Ah what the heck.... just go out there and have fun presenting lar! Oh and I can't believe I forgot this: another added element of 'fun' is the test after the presentation. Wowee.... such a 'fun' lesson later. Still, journalism's interesting... so... later just try to do the questions. haha

What I imagine a press release of McDonald's might be pertaining to its new advertising strategy... Interesting, imagining myself as some press release person haha... in class... bored...
McDonald's Goes Psychedelic!
If you switch on the TV and chance upon the newest McDonald's ads, you'd probably be forgiven if you mistake them for some fashion ad. Funky young people in fashionable garb sporting chunky accessories and exhibiting a riot of colours. A display of hip-hop culture and indeed, almost a 180 degree change from the usual focus of McDonald's ads.
"We realised that our previously young customers are growing up. The toys and promotions used to be enough to bring these customers back to our restaurants, but now they are demanding more. I know, because I am one of them" says Mr. Ronald McDonald, CEO of McDonald's.
Mr. McDonald went on to say that while the quality and variety of food was of world-class standards, it would be folly to bask in this current success. He maintains that McDonald's is undergoing a restructuring to make the restaurant more relevant to the masses of all ages.
While previous ads focused on children and families, these new ads are targeting Gen X and Y. McDonald's hopes to bring in more of the pie from the food market. In doing so, Ms. Birdie, Imaging Consultant for McDonald's has decided to equip counter staff with stylish black polo-tees bearing the words "I'm Lovin' It". This goes hand-in-hand with previous efforts to portray dining at McDonald's as a thematic experience. The McDonald's at Ang Mo Kio Ave 4 has a Mexican theme, while that at King Albert's Park has a sports theme.
"McDonald's can be as much a place to chill out as Starbucks and Coffee Bean can be, and it's my wish to see that happen. In future, instead of meeting over a cuppa, people may meet over fries, gourmet burgers and drinks with mass appeal," Ms Birdie enthuses.
Indeed, McDonald's looks set to conquer a larger segment of the food market. All I can say is, "I'm Lovin' It"!
