Tis a delicate balance... Sensitivity... bah humbug.
Not sensitive enough, get labelled insensitive
Be sensitive, get labelled insincere.
Lose-lose situation. I hate this.

Monday Headaches
I'm quite sure and very convinced that Mondays have just taken a dislike to me. Somehow, since the start of this term, I haven't been through a Monday without a headache. Ok, with one exception: the day I trudged down to school at 8.30am in the morning and spent 4 hours on an assignment, only to find the lecturer showing us how to do it the next day... darn. That's the only day I woke up early anyway.
So I'm just wondering... is it that waking up early will guarantee me a headache-free Monday? Or is Monday just bad news for me?
And yes, the headache usually gets so bad I just wanna sit there, sleep, and not do anything. Plus, I usually have an added 'perk' of headaches: nauseousness... What a package!
Think I'll just go pop some panadol and study for the siociology-journalism test on thurs, plus complete the wretched math assignment. Any kind souls with panadol?

Where art thou, O Fishball Noodles?
My sis's down with a fever. She's been home all day, like a throw rug... a really heated throw rug. So hot... Throat infection. Well you must probably be wondering what this has to do with fishball noodles right? Wait a bit...
Well, brought her to see the doc, and he diagnosed it as a throat infection. And as a sick girl who already loves fishball noodles (the link!!!), she wanted to eat fishball noodles. So there I went on my quest for fishball noodles. I thought it'd be easy... after all, it's such a staple that every hawker centre should have one right?
I walked down one side of the hawker centre... ordered my Satay beehoon. No fishball noodles. Walked down the other side... ba chor mee... mushroom minced meat noodles... no fishball noodles. Then I saw the words "Fish ....." and walked quickly over. And lo and behold to my horror, I saw "Fish porridge". Then "Fish Slice Beehoon"... anything but the normal fishball noodles. Nooooooooooooooo!!!! Desperate, I went to another hawker centre.
Scanned the boards quickly... nope, no fishball noodles. Only Fish porridge. So... I decided to try my luck at placing a special order. Went to the zhi char stall that sells fish porridge and asked if they could make a special order of fishball noodles for me. They hesitated... then agreed to make it. So finally I got hold of the fishball noodles.
Isn't it ironic? Fishball noodles to be had on a special order from a zhi char stall? And it's not some ulu town ok... it's Ang Mo Kio, one of the most bustling and established towns in Singapore! And know what? There was a fishball noodle stall at the hawker centre just a few months ago... Wonder what happened to it. Upstaged by the new chicken rice stall (in abundance... can easily find 5 in a big hawker centre)??? Or the stalls that sell exotic foodstuffs? Or the stalls that sell fish porridge? Hmmm.... I wonder. Could someone enlighten me please?
Meanwhile, I think I'll go around looking out for more fishball noodles stalls... Who knows, one day I might just wanna go for something plainer and want to eat fishball noodles!
But until I find that delectable local staple (yeah the irony of it), I'll stick to SC's mee pok (when I can go down). Nothing can beat that! Anyone wanna join me? We'll go in the pri sch holidays k? Then... haha then... we'll have food to eat. If not, sorry, no mee pok! And we noodlephiles, or more precisely SCmeepok-philes, will be left high and dry!

Something new... a new quiz with a nice picture to match! Like the realness (does this word even exist?) of the photo, complete with the brightness and glitteriness!

Love Released
Thought provoking poem by Tom Felton...
~~~~~~~~~~~
And a lovely hymn written by F. M. Lehman, 1868-1953
The Love of God
The love of God is greater far
than tongue or pen can ever tell;
It goes beyond the highest star,
and reaches to the lowest hell;
The guilty pair, bowed down with care,
God gave His Son to win;
His erring child He reconciled,
and pardoned from his sin.
O love of God, how rich and pure!
How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure
The saints’ and angels’ song.
When years of time shall pass away,
and earthly thrones and kingdoms fall,
When men, who here refuse to pray,
on rocks and hills and mountains call,
God’s love so sure, shall still endure
all measureless and strong;
Redeeming grace to Adam’s race---
the saints’ and angels’ song.
Could we with ink the ocean fill,
and were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill,
and every man a scribe by trade,
To write the love of God above,
would drain the ocean dry.
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
though stretched from sky to sky.
Chicken Alphabet: The Lazy Way
Well, this idea came during an extremely hungry night... wanted to eat something savoury so.. no instant mee goreng, no cup-a-soup... cup noodles just had last night... Yeah i'm a supper person.
Best bet? Campbell's Soup. Chicken Alphabet's the only flavour... will stock up on other creamier soups soon. Great easy supper for lazy people!
Get your bowl. Pour the amount you want into your bowl and the rest into another container to refrigerate for another night. Pour in hot or boiling water (boiling's better) from the thermos flask. Stir!
No hassle of setting microwave timings.. finding microwavable bowls and covers with holes... and no hassle of cooking on the stove! Just add water, stir, and you've got yourself a nice hot supper to warm that tummy!
Life as an ISFJ
(Introvert, Sensor, Feeler, Judger)
People of this type tend to be: cautious, gentle, and thoughtful; hesitant until they know people well then affectionate and caring; very literal and aware of the physical world; uncompromising about personal standards and easily offended; diligent and conscientious, organized and decisive.
The most important thing to ISFJs is living a stable, predictable life and helping people in real ways.
Probably one of the most direct things I've posted so far... it arrived in my mailbox yesterday.
Weekly Christian Jokes - here was a large group of people. On one side of the group stood a man, Jesus. On the other side of the group stood Satan. Separating them, running through the group, was a fence.
The scene set, both Jesus and Satan began calling to the people in the group and, one by one - each having made up his or her own mind - each went to either Jesus or Satan.
This kept going. Soon enough, Jesus had gathered around him a group of people from the larger crowd, as did Satan.
But one man joined neither group. He climbed the fence that was there and sat on it. Then Jesus and his people left and disappeared. So too did Satan and his people. And the man on the fence sat alone.
As this man sat, Satan came back, looking for something which he appeared to have lost. The man said, "Have you lost something?" Satan looked straight at him and replied, "No, there you are. Come with me."
"But", said the man, "I sat on the fence. I chose neither you nor him."
"That's okay," said Satan. "I own the fence."
Blog... Web log as i've read for my course is a collection of links... it's how relevant it is that's important. Well, i think that definition is changing ever so slightly...
For one, i see so many blogs being used as online diaries. Not too relevant to the masses yah? But yet, it's still relevant to the blogger. And well, I know some people don't like my content, probably think: there she goes again talking about God. Some think it's boring.
Well, one man's meat is another man's poison. If you don't like it, or think it's boring, well... that's your perception.
Note: I'm not gonna change the content of my blog just because my readers don't like it. The blog's for readers to know a bit more abt what i think, not for me to pander to their itching ears. Readers want their itching ears to be scratched? Then go find another blog that can provide that scratch.
Life of David: Practical Faith
Message by Rev. Simon Nagarajan
Text: 1 Samuel Chapter 17 verses 33-52
David's issue was a national issue. Israel was at war with the Philistines, and it was normal at that time to end a war quickly by sending the best soldier to fight. At most one casualty, and it all ends quick. The Philistines sent Goliath, a giant. He towered over the Israelites, and none of the soldiers dared to take him on.
David, a shepherd, was minding his own business taking care of his father's sheep when his father called him to bring some provisions to his brothers in the battlefield. So David went, and saw Goliath. Goliath had been scolding and blashpeming God from day 1, and David couldn't take it lying down. So, he volunteered to fight... and he won!
This passage tells us how David faced his problems, and how we can:
1. Remember to look up to God
- we tend to look down and around... but we must look up coz' that's where our help comes from --- God!
- we must touch base with God, then we can offer what the Bible says, no more, no less. David had a close relationship with God, and he knew God will protect the Israelites because they're His people.
2. Remember His Works
- count your blessings by walking down memory lane
- David recalled God's providence from the lion and bear that he killed while protecting his sheep. A Shepherd lays down his life for his sheep because he loves his sheep.
3. Remember His goodness
- some of the big episodes in our life are to bring about maturity [Romans 8:23 says everything that happens to us is for our good]
- God is also dynamic: He works in different ways, so we should leave it all to God. The armour that worked for Saul did not work for David.
- God does things differently for different people
4. Remember God, and God will revise your perspective
- The Israeli soldiers saw Goliath as a formidable and invincible giant... David saw Goliath as a target that couldn't be missed!
(p.s. David's weapons were slingshot and 5 stones)
- David looked at the problem as a challenge... we can too
5. Remember God in humility
- Though David was confident that God will help him slay Goliath, he still practised responsibility. He was practical in picking 5 stones although in the end, only 1 was needed.
- This shows that God doesn't remove our responsibility
Bottome line: God never fails to help, and His help never fails!
A Child's Mind
Gave a little boy Yi Keong tuition today. He's got nice big innocent eyes, yet an impish face. Really cute in the adorable sense. Taught him some comprehension... he was quite slow at answering the questions, and relied a lot on me.
But when the other kids got ready to go have their outdoor activity, his brain cells started functioning better. Suddenly, the answers poured out and they were all quite correct! Even with minimal helping for the inference part, he got the questions correct!
That's the sociology of play in the eyes of kids for you manz...
Will be teaching Yi Keong and another pri 2 boy for the rest of the year. Think it's gonna be quite challenging and all!
And the funniest thing is erm... we were both in Gio Junior t-shirts... haha! I think i need more t-shirts! Do i see any coming my way come October? grinz
Mid Autumn Festival
On this night with a round full moon,
Pomelos are peeled,
Mooncakes eaten,
Tea drunk.
But on this day the lunar festival
Coincides with the solar calendar,
People weep,
They cry.
They remember the crashing planes,
The falling twin towers,
The cloud of smoke,
The hysteria.
~~~~~~~~~
While we admire the moon,
Let us remember the thousands
Who perished in the falling
Of the twin towers.
For someone's ideals
Innocent people died.
Blood for what?
They said it's to chide.
Let the widows weep
And the orphans cry.
And the rest of us?
Comfort them, we must try.

Hmmm... apparently i'm supposed to be comfortably in love. Erm... huh?!?!?! Like i'm in love.... hahaha. It happens to be the same result as Mel's. Weird. Lotsa of my results are either the same as Tsu or Mel.

How deeply in love are you?
brought to you by Quizilla
And yes Tsu, I'm really taking up ur theory of Kindred Spirits now... some freshie was talking incessantly to me DURING LECTURE yesterday, asking me private stuff like what's my gpa, my grade for various subjects and all... Nina and Ruo were on my left and they heard everything.. they were disgusted too. Most others i told were quite disgusted too... It's like... first time talking to someone and you ask about their grades? Get real... but i answered coz i didn't have a better way to shut 'im up. Anyway, KMei gave me a good solution: practise selective hearing :-)
Decided not to sit next to some freshies again... and it sux to know that some people are just talking to you because you've got some sorta power... or are known by the profs... and they hope to benefit from being your friend. Yucks. Makes my skin crawl....

How deeply in love are you?

Love Above All
The musical was great for a local production! The focal point was on the love that propelled them to share Jesus with the Aucas, a tribe in the Ecuadorian jungle known for their violence toward outsiders. None who met the Aucas lived to tell the tale.
But Jim Elliot found out about this tribe, and together with 5 other missionaries, were propelled to take up the challenge to go and tell the Aucas that Jesus loved them and died for their sins. They flew their plane over and gave the Aucas food, gifts and all that. But the Aucas thought the white men were there to eat them, and so speared them to death when they set foot on their territory. Many thought it was foolhardy... In fact, the journalistic world and the world at large simply could not make any sense out of the risk-taking and sacrificie that clearly was not borne out of daredevil adventurism or voyouerism. Time and Life magazines portrayed these deaths as a tragedy.
What happened? The missionary widows were not distracted by the public outpouring of sympathy, or of their personal loss, and boldly ventured into the Ecuadorian jungle again in late 1958 with their young children. The result was that the entire tribe came to believe in Jesus Christ as their Saviour and as their Lord. Wonderful, isn't it?
As I sat there... I cried when the girl playing Jim and Elizabeth Elliot's daughter, Valerie, sang of how she missed her Daddy... and I was really touched by how selfless these missionaries and their wives were. They really gave their all.. and I wonder: have I given my all to Christ?
Here's the finale: He is No Fool. Read it and ponder on the words...
He is No Fool
He is no fool, who gives what he cannot keep
To gain what he cannot lose.
He is no fool, he is no fool,
Who gives what he can never keep.
He is no fool, he is no fool,
Who gains what he can never lose.
What if I gain the world and all that it's worth,
And lose my soul in exchange?
I'd be a fool to lost it all,
For what will soon pass away.
I have one life, one life to live,
So help me, Lord, to wisely choose.
He was no fool, who gave His life on the cross,
Who died the world to redeem.
He paid my debt and set me free,
And now I am no more my own.
No greater love could claim my life,
To give my all I gladly choose.
For what shall it profit a man,
If he shall gain the whole world
And lose his wn soul?
Though the cross seemed foolishness,
And its way the path of shame,
I'll take my place with Christ
And proudly bear His name!
He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep
To gain what he cannot lose.
No greater love could claim my life,
To give my all I gladly choose.
No greater love could claim my life,

Passion and Purity
Just read Elizabeth Elliot's book Passion and Purity, and I must say, it has really been touching and so real. As I read it, I could just feel the about of struggle the couple went through so that they might obey God's Will and please God. Sounds masochistic.. but it isn't. It's true freedom, coz it's the ability to do what you want!
While Jim and Elizabeth Elliot wanted to get married, they also wanted to please God. So, they chose to do what they wanted: to please God. They got married in the end, and it was 5 years of waiting, writing letters, tears, happiness, and all. Long time...
Well, going off now to watch Mt. Carmel's presentation of their love story in a musical. More about it when I come back!
And suddenly I've got the inspiration that a book review for YC could be done on this... Song, if ur reading this... this is an idea!

The Reappearing Car
Donald McCaskill had his car stolen. But it was returned—15 years later!
The Australian man left a bingo hall in 1987 and found that his vintage Holden had left the scene. Someone had pilfered his prized possession!
Fast forward to 2002. Just a few streets from where his Holden had been stolen, the car was found, intact! Even the old push-button radio was still working.
“It was probably some kids joy-riding. They would have driven it past the Sunshine police station to get it where it was,” McCaskill told the Herald Sun.
Speaking of joy, Donald is happy to have his car back. It’s a nice backup for the newer car he owns, a 1992 Hyundai that is (understandably) loaded with security features.
In Galatians 4, Paul was writing to a church that had something stolen from them. No, they didn’t lose an automobile. They had lost their freedom in Jesus. They had also lost their joy for the true message of the gospel.
This is a common malady for all believers. When we come to Jesus, His grace and love transform us. We feel close to Him.
But, over time, some of our old ways may start to kick in. We may revert to trying to use good works and empty religious activities to somehow appease or please Him. As our heart slowly cools toward Him, our pious ways and legalistic behavior may come to a full boil.Stop right there. Your freedom in Jesus is being ripped off. You’ve entered a private prison. Here’s what Paul would say to you: “How is it that you are turning back to those weak and miserable principles? Do you wish to be enslaved by them all over again?” (Galatians 4:9).
Look at your faith. Let the empty years of trying to attain your own standing before God melt away. Beneath all the junk is a pure standing before God based on the true gospel.
Experience once again the freedom found in a loving relationship with Jesus. Come back to Him. —Tom Felten
bottom line: Freedom leaves when fellowship with Jesus ceases.
Scripture Text: Galatians 4:8-16
Galatians 4
8 Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, ye did service unto them which by nature are no gods.
9 But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?
10 Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years.
11 I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain.
12 Brethren, I beseech you, be as I am; for I am as ye are: ye have not injured me at all.
13 Ye know how through infirmity of the flesh I preached the gospel unto you at the first.
14 And my temptation which was in my flesh ye despised not, nor rejected; but received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus.
15 Where is then the blessedness ye spake of? for I bear you record, that, if it had been possible, ye would have plucked out your own eyes, and have given them to me.
16 Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?

God Doesn't Offer a Food-Court Selection
Ever been to a food court?
Lots of food, lots of choice
In plates and bowls all hot
you get to choose
To pick and muse
On whether lamb, beef or goose.
Then you retreat
Into your own small world
Where you can enjoy the eat.
But God doesn't operate a foodcourt.
Yet sometimes we think:
lots of thoughts, lots of choice
In a book that's not so thick
We like to choose
To pick and muse
On the thoughts that best fill our shoes
God offers His Word:
Take it or leave it
WHOLE
No picking and choosing:
Take it or leave it
WHOLE
