Kampong Kitchen
Unique place! It has a very rustic feel... all the wooden boards, poles... metal plates and bowls... thick red chopsticks... food served in baskets and on leaves... in woks... wow!
I liked the crab beehoon best. It has this lingering taste of crab in the beehoon, and it's the best beehoon I've ever had. Then after polishing off the crab, you get to ask the waiters to wash the shell, and then you can draw designs on it, and let it be hung up in the restaurant. That lends such a wonderful touch to the rustic interior. All the crab shells with messages and all. Can also bring the shell home, think it'll be a very good souvenier for say the birthday person. Different present!
In case you guys are wondering, Kampong Kitchen's featured on Channel U's programme... can't remember what it's called. And it's near Yio Chu Kang MRT. There's this short round building near the MRT station, just next to the sports complex, opposite the police station. If you go to YCK driving centre, you'll definitely pass by.
And this place is a must try! I really recommend it!

Mars
Saw Mars so clearly today. No otherstar ard, so it can only be Mars... pointed it out to him who drove me home. To that person: it really IS mars!!! I'm not kidding! Don't believe, go ask your mei who stays near our houses! She was the one who told me about it!
What a wonderful sight for my kid cousins who went lantern carrying today. Think they really enjoyed themselves at the park. But they're growing up so fast, it won't be long before this won't be a joy to them anymore, and they'd even abhor the thought of going on such walks.
Well, while it's near Mid-Autumn, let's admire the stars and moon, and mars, and marvel at God's beautiful handiwork!

Swim Over & Get Hooked
Seen this somewhere? Well, it's Fish & Co.'s tagline... and it's so apt. At least, I think it's apt... Fished out one of their brochures I got while walking along the streets one day. And I must say, it really did catch my attention. I love the bright colours of the small fishes, and all the small fishes in the big fish, swimming toward one direction. It's so colourful, yet so harmonious. Reminds me of Creation actually... diverse yet looks harmonious.. the colours I mean. But that's a different story. I'll keep it for another time.
Can't help but gush about the advertising structure... their website is so soothing too! The nice blue background with some wave-like simulation? Yup... and it has a clean and uncluttered look, which is what I personally like. Great fonts too!
Wow... if only we can use colour for some brochures we're doing... then we could make use of colours to create something as aesthetic as the Fish & Co. brochure and website! I think i'll go and eat there some day... prob celebrate some birthdays there with my friends. There's a birthday promotion going on.
Alright, enough gushing about the brochure already. Ruoling's gonna give me the look if I tell her how much I like the brochure (I've told her like 2 times already!) Hahaha...

Dipsticks, Roast Beef and Wine
Am so full... had dinner with Dean and Mrs Dean today, and the food was good! Mrs Dean sure is a good cook. I loved the appetizers and her potatoes especially. Mmmmmm.... the buttery taste of the potatoes with a tinge of olive oil.... heavenly!
Had a little wine too... about half a glass. It was red wine... Bordeaux 2000. Got inspired to read up more about it, but when i tried searching, i just got more confused. Anyway, i realised why i don't like wine. There's this strong smell and taste that i don't like... smells to me a bit like some alcohol cleaning solution.
Well, it was an enjoyable evening on the whole... and it's really wonderful of the Dean and Mrs Dean to open their house to us students. Bridges the gap lots... as i quote a freshie, "you get to talk to the profs like they're human beings!"
Guess it's really an eye-opener... And Dean and Mrs Dean are such a cool couple! I'm like... wow... haha

Indian Poker
Laughter-raising game played today. Works well with good group dynamics, and with people who dare do all the wacky forfeits. Oh yes... many forfeit ideas are required! Ok, here goes...
You'll need a pack of normal poker cards to play this. Pick out all the joker cards. Now, the objective of the game is not to be left with the card of lowest value. Value system goes like this: lowest number is 2, highest is ace; lowest pattern is diamond, followed by the flower, hearts, and finally spade.
What happens is, the cards are shuffled and each one is given a card face-down. Place the remaining cards in the middle, you'll need them later. At the count of three, everyone raises their own card up to their foreheads. The numbered side of the card is facing the other players: players cannot see the value on their own card.
Now, your objective is not to be holding the card of the lowest value. Then the exciting part arrives... you try to persuade players to exchange their cards. Thing is, you can lie. :-) So the psychoing begins as players try to make sure they are not the ones with the lowest cards.
Oh yes, each player can only exchange their card with the stack of cards in the middle once each round. When they declare they want to change, then they can throw down their current card, and pick one up from the stack in the middle.
Then when everyone's down exchanging cards and lying, all throw their cards down at the count of three! Then... see who has the lowest card. That person has to do a forfeit.

Forfeits
1. Act out a scene.
We did two scenes. One was of a guy chasing after 'someone' who owes him money. Twist is, the 'someone' he's chasing is a chair. So, he had to act out being very angry and all that.
Second scene was of a guy persuading his 'girlfriend' who's angry with him, to go swimming with him and put on a very dirty pair of goggles. The 'girlfriend' we used was a pillar... and it was a two-way conversation because the other person who did a forfeit was the voice of the 'girlfriend'.
2. 7 Wonders of the World
Forfeiters have to do a series of 7 body-to-body actions, adding on to the previous one. For example, 'heel to bottom'. Forfeiters have to put a heel to their bottom. Then we called out 'arm on knee'. Forfeiters had to put an arm on a knee, while still having their heel to their bottoms. This goes on until they've down the 7 actions simultaneously.
A harder variation is to get forfeiters to hold their positions for 10 seconds after the 7th action is called. It'll be even harder when more forfeiters are involved. The possibilities are endless!
3. Sing Outta Tune
It seems simple, but really isn't, especially for those who've got good pitch. Someone can play the accompaniment to a song, and the forfeiter's got to sing the same song in a key lower than the one played. They have to sing out of tune.

Mega sigh
Did homework today. AMAZING. First week of school and assignments are just piling... maths for econs (22 questions), game theory, applied econometrics... all got assignments. Frankly, i don't mind game theory nor applied econometrics... but maths... my JC maths is so absolutely rusty!!! Can't remember how to do binomial... factorial... it's a wonder the methods of factorization popped up. And the textbook? Useful for skimming through. So few formulas, can just die... Summation formulas all missing. Well, most anyway. Complex numbers, totally not inside. Have to go and zap tomorrow. What's the use of a text if it's not so informative.. hai...

Just Five
Planning the camp now... and all sorts of funny things are coming up! Bro mat suggested using "Just Five"... Weijian suggested "Hi Five"... then Bro Mat went... "how bout Hi Five Bye Bye?"
No prizes for what happened next... we all doubled up in laughter!!! Erm... inappropriate for camp name... haha.
But really, thank God for giving us the place to stay... I mean, Uncle Gilbert and my dad booked the chalets at different times. We could easily not have gotten the plots we wanted... but hey, know what? It was filling up SO slowly... we got it! Yay! And it's by the sea somemore. So nice. Water therapy... Cindy, if you're reading this, yups, we can go for water therapy, the looking and staring at water kind! :-) hot bubble bath'll have to wait till we get home from camp. Swimming? U go ahead, i'll stare at water!

An Evening by the Federal
It was great! Had feedback that the food was really good too! All except for that same classmate who complained abt the library and sa. She said tt we didn't cater to vegetarians. We did: to the vegetarian who had the sense to reply to us and inform us that he's vegetarian, and tt he's got dietry restrictions. You don't tell us, we're not gonna assume a lot of vegetarians... We did get a Halal caterer though. And there was veggie. I hope these people open their mouths next time to tell us, so that they won't go home hungry.
Well, that was a digression. It was a time when (as i quote) we actually get to talk to profs as though they're humans! Wow... it really made an impact on everyone! And some faculty and staff brought their family along too, it was quite a romantic candlelight dinner (no money to provide for electricity)!!!
And just across the field were the pple at extremist camp setting up their tents... Haha. The seniors came over for our food later, to help us polish up the remnants, but the juniors were so involved in the activities they didn't have a chance! Well, hope things went fine today when they were windsurfing and all.... it rained heavily islandwide.
But most of all, the Dean and Mrs Dean were very happy with it. And i must say, the planning com did an excellent job. Well done Ruoling, Kay Mei, Meijuan and Jo-Ann! It was a wonderful evening!

Results
Got a B+... am quite happy with it, but am worrying a bit about the steadily falling gpa. It falls anymore and i won't have to worry about getting honours: i'll just not get it!
This term must really really work hard... read all the pre-assigned readings... do all assignments... especially since i'll be taking like 3 econs subjects! And complex numbers... urgh. Gotta meet them again after like so many years of not seeing them. I'm not liking this... but prof says it'll be useful so let's just wait and see....
Then went for lunch with a classmate (who loves America way overboard) one of these days... once she starts speaking to an american, her slang switches IMMEDIATELY from Singaporean to American. Sigh... and she's always so debative. She complained abt the library not having enough books... that some ppl have to go to other tertiary institutions to borrow books and all... i'm like pulease snape out of it! Don't expect the library to provide textbooks for us to borrow for 2 MONTHS AT A TIME. That's utter madness and insconsideration for all the others who want to borrow the book. If she wants such a system installed, then it only makes sense if enough copies are provided for all students. If not, why allow the student to borrow for 2 months?!?!?!
Then she goes and complains about the SA being incompetent. Well, i don't think they're very competent either, but they've just been inefficient... it's not as if the situation's so bad until it seems as though we don't have an SA. But i think one of her grouses is valid. Foreign students who rent the hostels and want to go home for a while, or go on exchange have to pay rent on their hostels. And if they don't pay the rent, they have no place to put their stuff. K, this is valid. The sa could do something about it. Maybe just drop it as an idea in their feedback box... She's really bothered abt it, tt we Singaporeans don't care about the welfare of foreign students (btw, she's also a Singaporean). I think if she wants this idea to go through, then DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT instead of bitching about it to me. I'm not in the sa, can't do anything for her. But i see her point.

Finally, TWC results are out today. It's been an agonizing wait since morning.. the results'll only be out at 3! Finally... after all the reading of nanotechnology stuff and keeping cool while one grp mate was driving the rest of us up the wall... results will be out!
Well, in the meantime, gotta read Cherian Goerge's assigned readings. Quite interesting, the sociology of journalism. Didn't know there was so must background to journalism before... Always thought that as long as the journalist is objective, he/she is a good journalist. But Cherian George challenged that yesterday. Well, i've got 15 more weeks in his class, so hopefully by then I'll learn much more about what it means to be a journalist!
